You Offered Her Help, Healing, and Hope

You offered her help, healing and hope

Today, Sharon’s face mirrors the joy she feels inside. She is 100% trusting in God as one chapter of her life is closing and a glorious new one is unfolding.

It’s been a 31-year journey even Sharon can hardly believe she endured. But the once happy, healthy, loving marriage—where she and her husband raised their four children—swiftly fell apart when his deceit, unfaithfulness, and later, addiction, plunged Sharon into decades of chaos and abuse that she could not escape.

“It was devastating,” Sharon says, remembering the shock of his betrayal. “Everything fell apart with us after that. He kept saying, ‘I’ll change. I’ll change. I’ll change.’”

Her children were young then, so Sharon worked hard to get things worked out with her husband. But once addiction took hold, everything became harder. The final straw was the day a routine traffic stop led to her trunk being searched. Sharon had no idea that someone had put drugs there, and when the cops found them she was arrested on the spot and sent to jail.

It took six months for the public defender to prove the drugs were not Sharon’s, then the court ordered her to Nashville Rescue Mission to get the help she needed to heal and get a fresh start.

“It was the lowest I’ve been in my life, but coming to the Mission has been good,” she says.

I was able to clear my head and figure out what I wanted to do.

Sharon entered our Life Recovery Program and has been thrilled with all she has learned. Her future is a bright one . . . she is free from an abusive relationship and closer to her grown children than ever. She is going back to school, working part time, moving into an apartment with her youngest son, and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.

This Thanksgiving, Sharon is giving thanks for the many people who choose to support Nashville Rescue Mission, making the Life Recovery Program possible. Thank you for making a contribution today to share help and hope with neighbors in crisis!
