Voices of the Mission: New Faces

Meet some of the new, fresh faces on staff at Nashville Rescue Mission. Hear in their words why the Mission matters.

Maria Urias, Receptionist

“Nashville Rescue Mission’s core values align with my own, so I knew it would be a great place to work. As the receptionist, I enjoy connecting people with resources that give them hope. It’s great to be a part of an organization that serves people who may not find refuge elsewhere and connects people experiencing homelessness with resources they may not know about. Our Nashville community is beautiful. But unfortunately, many people in our community go unserved. So, I’m thankful there is a place like the Mission, where anyone can get the help they need to change their life.”

Adam Swihart, Director of Guest Services

“Working at Nashville Rescue Mission is something that feels like home. The best part of this job is working with the men and women on staff. The relationships we develop with one another are incredible. We can’t do this work on our own. We need each other. The people that work here commit their lives to this work. Rescue missions are a respite from the street; they are a beacon of light and give hope to communities. At the Mission, this is our commitment to the community. It’s who we are. WE are in the business of serving others.”

Alexis Brown, Assistant Director of Life Recovery Program

“I have been transformed by Christ and cannot ignore the spiritual need of people. I love that Nashville Rescue Mission is constantly seeking growth and innovation while keeping Christ at the core of all the work we do. Every community needs a place where anyone can come to get their needs met when they have nowhere else to go. The Mission does that. We meet people where they are and help meet their most basic needs, as well as more complex ones. And if we can’t help an individual, we lead them to someone who can. But, most importantly, we’re sharing hope and love beyond what this world can give, found only in Jesus Christ.”
