Supporter Spotlight: Kara’s Caramels

How did you first get involved with Nashville Rescue Mission?

For years, my husband and I have supported the Mission, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. We’ve given food and donated clothes. I’m a 6th grade Math teacher, and in 2019, my students created over 200 cards to give to guests and collected hundreds of food items, clothing, and school supplies for the Mission. In December of 2020, my business, Kara’s Caramels, decided to support the Mission with a donation of a certain percentage of sales.

What prompted your first financial gift to the Mission?

My husband and I first donated to the Mission because of a loved one who struggled with addiction and had spent some time staying at the Mission. I am happy to say this loved one is beating addiction, thriving, and doing well! We chose to continue giving through our business because of our connection to the organization.

What do you think is the most important thing Nashville Rescue Mission does for the Nashville community?
We love the Mission and everything it does. Being a faith-based organization that provides a safe place for hungry and homeless people is crucial to our community. The Mission offers some fantastic and essential programs, such as their Life Recovery Program and providing emergency services. I had no idea how much the Mission does until I recently participated in their Hearts of Hope campaign. Seeing how much they do to help women and children is a beautiful thing.

What would you say to someone who is considering making a gift to the Mission?
I would absolutely encourage anyone considering donating to Nashville Rescue Mission to do so. There are a plethora of ways to make a difference and help. Even if it’s not a cash donation, someone could always give food, clothing, or other goods that are in need, including time volunteering.
