Nashville is home to my family and me, which is why it’s so important for us to give back to the community. A few years ago, my dear friend, April Tomlin, introduced me to an organization called Home Street Home, which helps support and give resources to the homeless. This ministry really opened my eyes and made me more aware of the extreme rate of homelessness in our city. It was a sobering experience, and I knew I needed to get involved.
Since working with Home Street Home, I sought out other organizations in Nashville that are supporting our homeless. Nashville Rescue Mission is doing amazing work in the city among the homeless population, and I am honored to join them in their efforts!
“The impact they’re making in the city is life-changing, and I’m so humbled to be a part of this effort.” –Mary Lawless Lee
Last year I worked with H&M to help collect over 4,000 donations in children’s clothes, which we gifted to kids and families at the Mission. It’s easy to take for granted our basic needs, but the truth is that’s not everyone’s reality. The Mission works with individuals struggling every day to address basic needs while also providing consistent support and community surrounding the homeless. The impact they’re making in the city is life-changing, and I’m so humbled to be a part of this effort.
Throughout my years in Nashville, my career has evolved. As a former ICU RN and now owning a digital media community, I have taken on many new roles. My absolute favorite and most important job will always be the role of being a mom. It breaks my heart the number of moms and children struggling with homelessness. Since becoming a mom, I know how important it is to have a community and support during motherhood. Not only is the Mission meeting basic daily needs, but they are also building communities for long-term support and stability in what can be the most challenging times for these ladies. This is vital infrastructure for these families and our city.
