God turned my mess into a message . . .

"God turned my mess into a message..."

Micky has a gift. He can help anchor people who are working to overcome addiction and other challenges, coaching them with encouragement and the tools they need to succeed. But first he had to follow God’s leading to Nashville Rescue Mission, where he found the anchor he needed to reclaim hope, healing, and a fresh start in life!

“I was a mess. In and out of jail,” Micky says, shaking his head in amazement. “A lot of anger had built up in me. I had no structure, no discipline. I was like a wild animal.”

“It wasn’t until I was finally broken inside that I hit my knees and asked the Lord to do something to help me. And He did.”

“I knew in my heart and my mind that I needed to come to Nashville Rescue Mission. I really believe God led me here,” Micky says.

“I knocked on the door and told my story to Monte Thomas, the Men’s Life Recovery Program Gateway Coordinator here at Nashville Rescue Mission, and he said, ‘Micky, why don’t you come in here and let us help you get on your feet?’ I could tell by the way he was talking that it was genuine.”

Micky committed to the Mission’s Life Recovery Program which helps men and women develop tools to make changes that lead to a better quality of life. Through discipleship and teaching, he learned how to make better choices in a nurturing environment that is Christ-centered.

He gives God the glory for putting him on the right path in life and for placing him in a position where he can impact the lives of others who are struggling as he once did. Today he works in Guest Services at the Mission.

“I could tell God was moving in my life, helping me get back on my feet to where I could pour out the love of Christ to the new guys who were coming into the Mission. I really love to encourage people and get them excited about change,” he shares.

One of my favorite sayings is...

“I enjoy what Christ has done in my life, and I get to share that when I work in Guest Services here at the Mission. It feels really good to be the hands and feet of Christ, where what you do makes a difference in somebody’s life.”

Micky laughs, remembering a question that once haunted him. “What is God going to do with a guy like me?” Now he knows the answer! “God turned my mess into a message for somebody else,” he says.

Because the Mission has been integral to his fresh start in life, Micky is deeply thankful to the many caring people who choose to volunteer and to support financially. He says, “I am so grateful for each and every one of the Mission’s donors. I get a little choked up thinking about it. I mean, the time, the effort, the contributions, the sacrifices of the donors . . . it’s outstanding to see what your love can do.”

Thank you for your prayers and ongoing support of Nashville Rescue Mission, which helps people like Micky receive the life-changing services they urgently need, plus hope for today, hope for tomorrow, and hope for eternity!
