The Mission opened in 1954, to meet the needs of the homeless in Middle Tennessee. Since then we’ve provided more than just meals and beds, but also Christ-centered support and long-term treatment for those with life-debilitating problems. We’ve seen and met needs, expanding our services to include women and children.
Several years ago, we saw an increase in the number of women and children entering our doors. We knew our Family Life Center built in 1986, to accommodate 80 would not be big enough for the growing need.
Although temporary assistance is essential to a changed life, resolving the homeless situation is more than just a meal and a bed. For real lasting change to take place, a woman needs life-recovery training that will provide life-long skills.
The Hope Center, a biblically based, residential program for women, opened in 1996 to meet this need and accommodated 42. As we served more homeless women and children, those seeking help through the Hope Center increased as well.
With the percentage of homeless women and children growing at an alarming rate of 30%, we knew we were running out of room and prayed for a solution.
God led us to establish the “Transforming Lives” plan. Our hope was to increase our number of beds in the Family Life Center to 213, including the ability to provide shelter to mothers and older boys; and expand the Hope Center by 18 additional beds.
In early 2009, I appealed to you and others in our community to help us do this. Many of you answered, providing us the financial means to begin construction. As it stands today, the financial support needed to fund this expansion has fallen short. But we are trusting God to provide. If you have not joined us yet in these efforts, will you prayerfully consider doing so today?
Because of you, lives are being transformed. Thank you for being used by God to help those in need.
