Every day for over 55 years, hurting people have come through the doors of the Nashville Rescue Mission to receive the very basics of life. A warm, nutritious meal instead of an empty stomach. A safe, clean bed instead of cardboard and concrete to sleep on. Bathrooms, showers and clean clothes instead of living in filth. In addition, they receive a listening ear instead of being ignored—care and acceptance instead of violence and rejection.
We take our name very seriously. On the coldest of nights, we seek out the homeless men, women and children who are living under bridges or camped in alleyways—offering to bring them in from the cold to receive food, clothing and shelter. Sometimes “rescuing” also means saving one’s life.
But we provide more than just “the basics.” There is always someone to pray with or receive counsel regarding the struggles of daily living. For the men and women who join our life-recovery programs, a whole new start in life is possible. They begin to experience the love of Christ that brings understanding, conviction and hope leading to newness of heart.
“As the temperatures drop, it is our hope that homeless men and women will seek shelter on these dangerous nights.”
Plus, they gain strength to cast off old ways and adopt new healthy ones in many areas of their lives. They truly receive, “beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.”
You, our partners, are a special part of the life transforming work of the Nashville Rescue Mission. You help us provide more than “the basics.” You make a difference in the lives of the men, women and children who seek help and hope at the Mission. We could not do this without your support. Thank you for caring for the least, last and lost of Middle Tennessee.
