In 1973, Jim McFarlin launched his business with just two trucks, and in 1975, expanded by opening his first warehouse. Today, M&W Logistics Group remains a family-owned and operated company with Mike McFarlin, Jim’s son, as CEO. Mike has continued in his father’s footsteps of giving back to the community and is proud to support Nashville Rescue Mission.
How did you first get involved with the Mission?
The leadership at M&W has always had a heart for the homeless. Several years ago, a few M&W team members decided to take a tour of the facility and see our gifts in action. After seeing all the Mission does to help the less fortunate in our community, we decided to make a more significant commitment and support them in other ways.
What specific aspect of the Mission’s work attracted your support?
We love that the goal of the Mission is to move people out of homelessness and into jobs. As we’ve had the opportunity to get more involved, we’ve seen first-hand how the Mission helps those experiencing homelessness, struggling with mental health issues, and battling addiction get back on their feet. We especially love seeing the progress of the men and women who participate in the Mission’s Life Recovery Program and graduate before re-entering society drug-free and job-ready.
What about your experience with the Mission led to your deciding to support the organization financially?
Since most of our employees are on the road, and our office staff is relatively small, we knew we’d have a greater impact by investing financially in the Mission than in volunteering. We do volunteer when we can, but we also look for other opportunities to support the Mission through sponsorship of events like the Turkey Fry, Hearts of Hope, and Celebration of Hope.
Why do you continue to support the Mission?
We’ve been blessed to have some great years at M&W and feel it’s our responsibility to give back to the community. The issue of homelessness is prevalent, and we know it could happen to anyone. We consider it a good use of our resources to help someone who might one day work for us. Nashville Rescue Mission does a great job of taking care of the homeless. We are grateful for them and what they do in this community.
