Deep love for his family helped Reginald finally reach a point in his life where he was ready to be a giver instead of a taker. God led him to Nashville Rescue Mission where he got that chance—and a fresh start in life—thanks to caring friends like you.
“My sister played a vital role in all the goodness I have in my life, just like my mother and father did,” Reginald says. So it was quite the wake-up call when she dropped him off at Nashville Rescue Mission one morning and told him not to come home until he was straightened out.
Reflecting on his life, Reginald says his slow decline into addiction never had him sleeping on the streets but, rather, floating from one friend’s house to the next for a night or two. Then came the loss that truly rocked his world . . .
“My mother and my sister, they passed away four months apart,” Reginald says. “That began a sense of ‘Okay, you’re on your own now. How are you going to manage this?’”
Ready for change and committed to helping himself, Reginald engaged with his case managers at the Mission and really relied on those devoted to helping people heal and rebuild their lives.
“My case manager stands by me because he believes in me. He believes in what he’s seen me do,” Reginald says. “Now, I consider myself to be his volunteer. The days that he’s here, when I get off work, I go straight to his office for whatever I can help him do, whatever he allows me to be a part of. Those things are important to me.”
The future is bright for Reginald and he has a long to-do list which he is actively working on, thanks to the help and hope he received at Nashville Rescue Mission.
He says:
“My goals are to be a man—reliable, accountable, responsible. Then, having a loving relationship with my family and a successful business. I want to be a part of other people’s success. More importantly, though, I want to be of maximum service to [every] man, woman, and child, and to the God that I serve. Maximum service.”
