At rock bottom, Mary experienced tough love from her family. She had to overcome addiction . . . or they were done with her. Being separated from those she loved most—including her young son—was a powerful motivator. She cried out to God, who led her to Nashville Rescue Mission and a NEW LIFE in Jesus Christ!
“I went to the program at Nashville Rescue Mission thinking I wasn’t going to make it just because it was so hard being away from my son. But my family did tough love, and I didn’t have much of an option . . .”
Her lifestyle was all about drugs and the so-called friends who could help her get them. “I was jumping from couch to couch,” Mary says, remembering how hopeless she felt.
Looking back on it now, Mary knows how addiction caused her to burn so many bridges. “I told myself I didn’t have to live this way, but I couldn’t stop. I was just stuck.”
The day she came through the Mission doors, she finally faced the truth—that addiction had taken everything from her; that she had no home, no one to turn to, no place to go; and most importantly, she admitted she couldn’t do it by herself because she had tried many times!

That’s when Mary learned about our Life Recovery Program, which is a comprehensive, Christ-centered program designed to help men and women understand the reasons they struggle with addiction, homelessness, and other broken lifestyles.
She knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but she wanted desperately to change her life. Mary trusted in God that she could take the steps needed to overcome addiction and rebuild her life through a solid relationship with Him. “Because of the severity of the drugs I did, I needed counseling. This program offers that, and it just made me come alive. I came alive when I came to Nashville Rescue Mission.”
Mary is deeply grateful for getting a second chance in life and with her family. She gives thanks each day to God and to friends like you who support Nashville Rescue Mission.

“The Mission helps people who have no other chance, helps them redeem their lives . . .”
She wishes donors could truly see the impact they make in the lives of men and women who are like she once was. She says, “When people come here, they’re broken. But the Mission gives people food, gives them somewhere to stay. They’re loved and they’re taken care of. From the time they get here until they leave, [they become] a whole different person.”
Mary completed the program and is ready to take her next steps into the abundant life she knows God has planned for her. She’s landed a great job and is thrilled to greet each new day. “Mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, I’m better. Now, I’m going on to bigger and better things. And I get to be a mother,” she says with a smile.
Pray with us for Mary’s new beginning in life . . . and for the many other men, women, and families who are turning to Nashville Rescue Mission hoping for new life this Easter season! May God bless you for your ongoing support that is saving and changing lives!
