Currey’s Why Story

Life Coach, Men's Life Recovery

“The greatest people I have met in my life have been here, the worst people I have met have been here, and all in-between. I love that every day is different, but still filled with opportunity. The Mission has been a lot of things, but my work/ministry has NEVER been boring. I can say that I truly enjoy what I get to do here each day. I am not a TGIF person, nor do I ever dread Mondays. I love the opportunity to watch Jesus working in the lives of the people here... not just our participants, but also the volunteers and staff.”

Emma’s Why Story

Supervisor, Women's Guest Services

"The part I love the most is Radical Hospitality. When the ladies, mothers, and children come in for the first time, they are at ground zero and the Mission is here to meet them where they are and accommodate them to get them back on their feet, to be whole and happy. I can be a part of this miracle in their lives. They are utterly amazing, and I want to be a part of helping, encouraging, and seeing them get back to normal, healthy lives in society."

Gabe’s Why Story

Maintenance

"I love being able to work with my hands. It’s funny, because when I was in my mess, I probably broke everything that I touched. I was just a wrecking ball, but the Lord, in His infinite wisdom and sense of humor said, 'You know what, I’m going to put your life back together and I’m going to let you fix things.'"

Krystle's Why Story

Coordinator, Operations

“The Lord saved my life through the Mission from addiction. He did a supernatural divine intervention to get me there, and has blessed my life ever since. I went through the Women's Life Recovery Program, and I knew it was what God was calling me to do. I get to be involved everyday helping women who are walking what I once walked through. It is such a blessing to see them cross milestones and come out on the other side.”

Taylor’s Why Story

Coordinator, Operations

"It almost draws you in, seeing so much hope and love this ministry gives. I would say it means a lot to me on that fact alone. Where I'm at is where God has me. It's an incredible thing to be able to live a life full of happiness with the overwhelming love of God. I wouldn't change a thing because God had His hand on me through it all and He knew how much it would take to fully surrender. For that I am grateful!"

Laura’s Why Story

Director, Marketing & Communications

“None of us go untouched from the hands of addiction—we forget that when we are in the throes of struggle and heartache. Working at the Mission, I have been reminded of that almost daily and it's given me a perspective of empathy and a greater connection to the humanity in other people. I see my father and brother in so many of the men the Mission helps. I see my mother in the single moms trying to provide for their children. I see my sister in each woman who comes through the Recovery Program wanting to get clean.”

Jon’s Why Story

Director, Therapy & Life Coaching

"I believe by getting up for the participants, we are really embodying Christ in those moments. Jesus died on the cross, but we know Paul said that basically if He hadn’t risen from the dead it’d have all been for nothing. Jesus died for us, but He got up for us too. Every day when I get up for work, I get up to serve people that a lot of society has dismissed but God believes they’re worth much and so do I."

Britney's Why Story

Director, Volunteer Services

"Working here brings a deep sense of awareness and humility. It makes you appreciate the small things you’ve taken for granted and recognize that the world extends far beyond what you see—or choose to ignore. Real problems persist, and lasting change requires a united community effort."

Kyle’s Why Story

Food Services Manager

Working at the Mission is "a chance to give back. To be able to help and serve others and to freely share my faith in Jesus. Showing others what God, when you choose His way, can do when you talk to Him and form a relationship with Jesus. This is where God wants me to be at this point in my life."

Jean’s Why Story

Assistant Director, Women's Guest Services

“This is where the Lord wants me. I have tried once or twice to leave and the Lord shut every door for me. I love the Mission and what it stands for. I can freely share the gospel with a guest without fear of repercussions. I love working for an organization that truly cares for the staff and guests/participants we serve. It's just not lip service. I can go to anyone of my coworkers and ask for prayer and they will stop what they are doing at that moment and will pray with me. That means so much to me.”

Thomas’s Why Story

Assistant Director, Men's Guest Services

“In this line of work, it takes people who are called or crazy. Sometimes it may take a bit of both. I was crazy enough to answer the call. I have grown to love what I do here. I have daily opportunities to promote positive life change and speak the truth in love, for some who have been outcasts in society. I do it all for God's glory.”

Fiona’s Why Story

Manager, Finance & Administration

"I work here because Christ is proclaimed every day not just in words but also in deeds. I see that the Mission is being the hands and feet of Jesus. I am thankful to be part of the work in the Mission and even though I do not interact with the guests' needs directly, I feel the work I do here does impact and spread the work of Christ."

Doug's Why Story

Director, Guest Services

“My own family has been touched by homelessness and addiction, so an opportunity to work for an organization committed to these focuses—and which shares my family's values—is very important. And to do it with a Christ-centered approach is the icing on the cake.”

Holly's Why Story

Case Manager, Women's Guest Services

"I come to work every day because I get to serve my community, grow as a person, and—most importantly—I have the freedom to share God's love to anyone I encounter. I stand behind the work we do. I get to be a light to people who are in a dark place and offer the hope of Christ. I have a calling on my life here. I will remain here as long as God has me here."

Albert’s Why Story

Life Coach, Men's Life Recovery

“Because I've been in recovery for over 15 years, I'm able to give back through my experiences and the many obstacles that I had to overcome. It's a blessing to work for the Mission. One of my biggest goals in life is to see lives changed. A male participant told me one day that he helped someone from his past find direction and get some help for his addiction. For me, it was like seeing a 'seed' growing into a tree! The excitement that he shared with me confirmed that I'm in the right place. Gratitude!”

Bill’s Why Story

Assistant Director, Case Management

“The ministry here has been the most rewarding and difficult of any I have done. I would not trade one moment of offering the cup of cold water to a thirsty man for anything else in this world.”
