Last year, volunteers gave over 40,000 hours of their time in service to Nashville’s homeless by volunteering at the Nashville Rescue Mission. And while the nation may designate just one week to recognizing volunteers, at the Mission, we realize without volunteers, we could not do what we do—so we celebrate you all year long.

 

One such group we’d like to celebrate is from Ethos Church. Under the umbrella of “40 Days in the City,” Ethos Church challenged its congregation to spend 40 days serving the city of Nashville in a variety of ways. Starting April 4, 2010 through May 23, 2010, Ethos set out to give its members the opportunity to serve in six areas of passion: the Poor, the Recovering, the Culture, the Kids, the Widows, or the Neighborhood.

 

Each Wednesday, during the 40 days, volunteers from Ethos are serving meals to the hungry and homeless at the Nashville Rescue Mission. We appreciate their commitment to helping those in need and to serving the Nashville community in general.

 

Volunteers do more than just serve food. They also provide hope and encouragement to those they serve by sharing a hello or offering up a smile to someone in need.

 

To all volunteers among us and in whatever role—you are appreciated and thanked for all you are and pour back into the community every day and in many, varied ways!
