It took six long, terrible months for lung cancer to take Nancy’s beloved husband’s life. After he was gone, she was so shattered she could no longer function . . .
“I got very depressed and grief-stricken,” Nancy* says. “I lost my job, my car, everything. I even lost hope. I got to the point where I wanted to take my life, but this small, still voice in me said to pray. So I prayed, and I asked God to help me . . .”
Following God’s leading to the doors of Nashville Rescue Mission, Nancy says, “I [had] never known suffering like this. I’ve never been homeless, but I was close to it.” Here, she learned about our Life Recovery Program and suddenly understood exactly why God had delivered her to the Mission!
“In the Life Recovery Program, you get a chance to recover your life. It’s a seven-month program of work therapy, counseling, group therapy, different things to rebuild your life and to get back in contact with God.”

Nancy has worked hard to heal and get back on her feet. And she is deeply thankful for the lifesaving, life-changing help she has received every step of the way. “If I hadn’t come to the Mission, I don’t know where I would be. But now, I’m going to school so I can help other women who are like me,” she says.
“I’m doing pretty good, for which I give God the glory. I thank the Mission and the Mission’s donors—the people who donate so I have a bed to lie in and clothes to wear. All of this comes from donors . . .” Nancy shares.

“I pray that God continues to move people to donate, [and for volunteers] to give their time and service to this place. I pray for the Mission and I believe that hope lives here.”
Thank you for supporting Nashville Rescue Mission to restore hope in lives like Nancy’s. Your compassion and generosity impact neighbors across Middle Tennessee, now and all summer long!
