Tell us how you got involved with Nashville Rescue Mission.
Lee Company has been involved with Nashville Rescue Mission for many years. I first got involved after touring the facility with Bill Lee when the Mission moved to its current location. At the time, I was an engineer and the Mission was in need of new showers and other plumbing systems which I engineered, and Lee Company donated.
What do you think is the most important thing Nashville Rescue Mission does?
The most important thing the Mission does is to share the love of Jesus Christ, to give people hope, and dignity.
What do you wish other people knew about Nashville Rescue Mission?
I wish everyone would tour the Mission and understand all of the services they provide. I think they would come away with a different perspective on who makes up the homeless population and how they got to where they are. On one visit, I met a man who lost his wife and child in a car accident. He started abusing alcohol to cope and ultimately lost his job, house, everything. I could see how this could happen to anyone, including myself. Without the Mission, this man had nowhere to turn. But when I met him, he was sober, interviewing for jobs, and beginning to start life again. The Mission provided him hope, sobriety, and a new start on life.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about donating, volunteering, etc. to Nashville Rescue Mission?
Definitely take a tour and see all things that they do to help people get back on their feet. You will not just see their facilities and the people they serve, but you will also hear stories and see examples of lives being changed for good. You will see the work of Christ being done on a daily basis there. Who doesn’t want to be part of that?
What do you think people need to know about giving to Nashville Rescue Mission?
The Bible says many things about giving and one is that we are called to give joyfully. However, pragmatically when I look to give to an organization, I am also looking to see that these dollars are used wisely, have true impact, and are used to honor God. Giving to the Mission is an easy one and checks all the boxes. It is well organized and run. It serves an incredible purpose for the homeless in our region and the community. And they honor God by providing hope to those who have none. So, if you want to give joyfully and pragmatically, there’s not a better place to give than Nashville Rescue Mission.
