Here’s how a group of friends—Tom, Tommy, Steve, and Ray—followed God’s call to give the great gift of their time at Nashville Rescue Mission . . .
“I have been familiar with the Mission since the 70s,” Tom says. “A few years ago, a group decided we could help by conducting chapel a couple of times each month and our ministry started”
Nowadays, these friends faithfully volunteer together the second and fourth Monday evening of every month.
“Volunteering in the Men’s Center chapel is a huge satisfaction knowing we are there to help folks find their way, and a bigger satisfaction is seeing men accept a better way,” Tom says.
Steve says, “I’ve known about Nashville Rescue Mission for a long time—over 30 years—as a police officer serving the Nashville community.

“My good friend Tom approached me a couple of years ago with a simple question: Would I consider joining the team to visit the Mission twice a month? I prayed about it, and then said yes. What I didn’t expect was how quickly it would grab hold of my heart.”
Ray agrees wholeheartedly! “I greatly enjoy ministering at Nashville Rescue Mission. It has allowed us to build relationships and encourage others, and even see some profess Christ as their Savior. We pray with many, for a variety of issues . . . from restoring families, finding work, physical issues, addictions, their walk with God, and more,” he says.
“I am thankful for the Mission and the staff. They provide the opportunity for us to minister, to be obedient to what God has told us to do,” Ray says. “We support the Mission not only financially, but also with our actions and service.”
Tommy’s experience with Nashville Rescue Mission runs even deeper. “I have known about the Mission from an early age. They provided care and direction for my father. He was an alcoholic and left our family to do life on his own. He wound up at the Mission several times in his life and they were always there for him, giving him hope and purpose, and he eventually found Jesus Christ. I know the work they do and how hard it is,” he shares.
“I thank the Mission for the role they played in my father’s life and want to support them in helping men and women who need help, who need to be shown love, grace, and mercy.”
A huge shout-out goes to these four friends, and to everyone who supports Nashville Rescue Mission through the great gift of time as a volunteer!
