Devastated—and abandoned—after a sudden breakup, Letitia collapsed physically and emotionally. After two long weeks, her heart was deemed healthy, and her mind had regained composure, but she had no way to retrieve her clothes or any other possessions from the home she and her partner had shared.
Worse still, Letitia was homeless . . .
Remembering the day she walked through the doors of Nashville Rescue Mission, Letitia says, “It was scary because there were a lot of new people around, but the staff took good care of me.”
Letitia was warmly welcomed, offered a good meal and a warm bed, and then learned she was in a place where she could access the tools and programs she needed to rebuild her life.
Among the immediate help she received was the great gift of life’s most basic necessities. For all she knew, her clothes, toiletries, and every little keepsake, photo, and a lifetime of souvenirs were gone forever.
“The only thing I had were the clothes on my back, and my shoe had two big holes,” she recalls, shaking her head. “I was more than delighted to go to the Mission’s clothes closet. I got shoes, shirts, and some pants. And I was delighted because they actually fit me.”
A woman of faith, Letitia greatly enjoys the faith-focused environment at the Mission. “Being able to go to chapel every night is such a blessing. The Mission is feeding us—and feeding us spiritually, too.”
The future is looking bright for Letitia who looks forward to regaining her independence so she can care for others as she has been cared for during a difficult time.
“My goal is to help other people,” she says, with a smile. “I’m going to donate money here [myself] because they have helped me a lot. Sometimes I thought I was going to break down, but the staff was right there.”
This Thanksgiving, Letitia and every guest at our holiday table will be thankful for caring friends like you who support Nashville Rescue Mission’s life-changing ministry!
