On Tuesday, October 27, 2009, CeCe Winans blessed over 400 of Nashville’s homeless men and women with a mini-concert at the Nashville Rescue Mission.
CeCe has received 10 Grammy Awards, 21 Grammy Award nominations, 20 Dove Awards and numerous Stellar Awards. But when introduced, asked not to be recognized for all these accolades, but instead asked to be introduced to the audience as a “servant of the most high God.”
“We had a challenging summer at the Mission this year,” said Bobby Nichols, a Chaplain and Counselor at the Mission. “We moved our program men down to the basement to accommodate the women upstairs while their building is being remodeled. The AC was out on several days when temperatures were in the 90s. In spite of the challenges, everyone kept a great attitude. I was praying for a way to encourage everyone when God laid CeCe Winans on my heart. I contacted her manager and the next thing I knew, she was agreeing to come to the Mission to sing a few songs.”
“I can’t tell you how much this blessed me,” said one of the homeless women staying at the Mission. “I haven’t felt this happy in a very long time.”
“God is just a prayer away. He is concerned about you.”
The capacity filled auditorium erupted into applause and several standing ovations during the hour-long concert. Attendees sang along with CeCe and her 5 back-up singers, who volunteered their time and talents to bless Nashville’s homeless with uplifting songs of praise and worship.
“There is power in worship. No matter how bad it is, we’re never going to stop praising Him,” shared Winans from the stage as she led the audience in a back and forth banter of “Never Gonna Stop, Never Gonna End.”
Winans sang the following songs during the concert: “Hallelujah Praise,” “Pray,” “He’s Concerned,” “Forever,” “Alabaster Box,” a cappella version of “I Love You Lord” and “It Ain’t Over.”
The Nashville Rescue Mission thanks CeCe Winans and back-up singers Jerard Woods, Alvin Love III, LeeAnn Palmore, Molley Moody and Christi Richardson for encouraging Nashville’s homeless through the gift of song.
