This might sound familiar to you. You’re on your way home and your phone rings. Caller ID lets you know who it is before you answer. It’s your friend “Bob” who has called three times already this week. The following thoughts run through your head:
• “I’m almost home and don’t have enough time to devote to his call, I’ll just let it go to voice mail.”
• “I know why he’s calling. I’ve tried helping him. I don’t know what more I can do.”
Sometimes these can be our thoughts when someone’s crisis forces us to let go of our plans. There are many occasions when we may give generously of our time, and other times we may be forced to say no. Then there are times we dodge responsibility completely!

We encounter many walking wounded here at the Mission. We believe God has given us the grace to help those He sends our way.
Each time I’m confronted with another’s need, I must decide what I believe about the hurting people in my world. Are they beyond hope and help, or does God have bigger plans for them that I don’t see? Could I be a part of these plans?
Jesus saw people differently. Sometimes I see hurting people through tired, self-focused eyes. Jesus sees them with compassion.
During His ministry, Jesus frequently opened the eyes of those who were blind. Today, Jesus is still in the sight restoring business. Pray He gives us the ability to see the downtrodden through new eyes.
Thank you for helping us offer grace to those walking wounded.
