Cold Patrol is on the move

“We got a call earlier today that a woman was sleeping on a bench in the park,” said Ed Grimes, Case Manager at Nashville Rescue Mission. “They are calling for record low temperatures tonight. She could freeze to death. Now we’re going to try to find her.”

 

Once the temperature drops, Nashville Rescue Mission’s Cold Patrol takes to the streets to find and transport homeless men, women and children to shelter. The van leaves the Mission after 4:00 p.m. every night the temperature is 37 degrees or below, searching the city in places where people might go to avoid the cold winds and plunging temperatures.

 

“We might see the same people night after night,” said Grimes. “But we won’t stop inviting them in. Hopefully, we can persuade them to accept shelter, even if it’s just for one night. It might save their life.
