Mission In My Words: Billy Strings

When we decided to do our second annual, “String The Halls” benefit show back in December, Nashville Rescue Mission was an obvious choice for my team and me.

I’m originally from Michigan, but Nashville is home for me now. Being able to support and give back to my community is something that’s really important to me.

I know what it’s like not to know where your next meal is coming from. I also know how that can affect everything in your life. It takes a toll on you mentally, physically, and spiritually. Addiction also hits really close to home for me. I’ve had way too many close friends lose their lives to addiction and drug overdoses.

Being able to support and give back to my community is something that’s really important to me.

Whether it’s a safe place to put your head at night or a warm meal, there are so many folks in our community who are in need of the resources and support the Mission provides. I wanted to do what I could to try and help support them and their work.

Homelessness and addiction come in all different shapes and sizes. No one is immune. We all need to try to support each other and help one another; however, we can.

Nashville Rescue Mission is a trustworthy organization that is doing a lot of good in our community. I hope you’ll join me in supporting them.

Born William Apostol, the Lansing, MI native was raised up on bluegrass guitar. Dubbed Billy Strings by an aunt who saw his burgeoning ability, he began fusing high-speed technique with his own equally breakneck charisma as a teenager. In 2016, this Nashville-based artist’s album, TURMOIL & TINFOIL debuted at #3 on Billboard’s “Top Bluegrass Albums” chart. He made his Grand Ole Opry debut in March 2019, performing two original songs on the legendary broadcast.
